Famous Spanish Actress: Penélope Cruz
Penélope Cruz is widely accepted to be the number one famous Spanish actor or actress currently working. Cruz has transformed herself into the most famous Spanish actress of modern times. Penélope Cruz Sánchez was born in Madrid, Spain, on April 28, 1974. Her father, Eduardo, was a retailer, and her mother a hairdresser. After Winning the Goya Award, which is the Spanish equivalent of the Oscars, as best actress it was widely speculated that Cruz would go on to have an amazing career -in Spain and abroad- that no other Spanish actress has ever achieved, and to date it seems that she has fulfilled many of the expectations of those around her.
Her list of Spanish film appearances include Jamón, Jamón; the Oscar-winning foreign film Belle Epoque, the film that turned her into Spain's leading female actress; and Almodóvar's All About My Mother, where she plays a nun who falls in love with an AIDS-infected man and then dies from the disease.
Famous Spanish Actors
Sara Montiel was born on March 10, 1928 and is to be one of the top Spanish actors of the 20th century. She is still a much-loved and globally recognized name in the Spanish-speaking film industry. She was born in Campo de Criptana in the region of New Castile in 1928 as María Antonia Abad. After her unparalleled worldwide hit in Juan de Orduña's El Último Cuplé in 1957, Montiel achieved the rank of mega-star in Europe and Latin America.
Montiel was recently portrayed in the Pedro Almodóvar film Bad Education by Gael García Bernal as the character Zahara. Montiel was the most successful Spanish actress during the mid 20th century in a great deal of the world. Miss Montiel's film "Varietes" was banned in Beijing in 1973. Her films "El Último Cuple" and "La Violetera" netted the highest gross revenues ever recorded for films made in the Spanish speaking movie industry during the 50s and 60s. She also played the role of Antonia, the niece of Don Quixote, in the 1947 Spanish film version of Cervantes's great novel.
Famous Spanish Actors: Antonio Banderas
Antonio Banderas is widely believed to be the most famous Spanish actor in the world, with several Hollywood blockbuster movies to his name. Although he started his career as an actor in Spain, he is a well established name in Hollywood where he has worked for several years. One of his earlier roles in hollywood included the 1992 film, The Mambo Kings, as well as a supporting role in the Oscar-winning 1993 film, Philadelphia. He appeared in several key Hollywood releases in 1995, including a starring role in the film Desperado. In 1996, he starred alongside Madonna in Evita, an adaptation of the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice in which he played the narrator, Che. He also received critical acclaim for his role as the fictional Mexican masked swordsman, Zorro in the 1998 film The Mask of Zorro, for which he was the first Spanish actor to portray the character after over 80 years since Zorro's creation.

Who do you think the most famous Spanish celebrities in the film world are?
Well, I reckon Antonio Banderas and Javier Bardem are the two best-known internationally ...
They've both received recognition and acclaim in the United States, they've acted in numerous international films, and been honored with awards.
But, they're certainly not the only brilliant actors Spain has to offer - not to mention good-looking!
Spanish television is jam-packed with talented, handsome, up-and-coming young actors and entertainers, who may one day replace the present Antonio Banderas and Javier Bardems of the world.
So, let's take a look at Spanish actors ... we'll start with quick biographies of Banderas and Bardem, then continue with the most popular Spanish television celebrities ...

Antonio Banderas was born José Antonio Domínguez Banderas, in Málaga, Andalucia, on 10th August 1960.
You'll find a picture of him at the top of this page ...
He's not bad for his age, is he?
Actually, he originally hoped to play football/soccer, but breaking his foot at the age of 14 put paid to these dreams.
He started his acting career at the age of 19, starring in some of renowned Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar's films.
Of course, he now lives in the United States, and has appeared in numerous Hollywood films - Assassins, Evita, Desperado, The Mask of Zorro ... to name but a few.
He's extremely versatile, with an excellent singing voice, which got him the part in the Broadway revival of the musical Nine.
He's still married to his second wife - Melanie Griffith. They married in 1996, and have one daughter.
Although living in the United States, he always returns to his native city of Málaga for Holy Week - Easter - when he participates in the celebrations there.
And, Melanie Griffith's Spanish slowly improves!...
famous spanish actors - javier bardem
Javier Bardem is some nine years younger than Banderas, having been born on 1st March 1969 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, with the name Javier Ángel Encinas Bardem.
Unlike Antonio Banderas, he comes from a family of actors although, at one time, he was also interested in a sports career.
He appeared in numerous Spanish films - such as Jamón, Jamón alongside beautiful Penélope Cruz - before achieving international recognition.
His big international breakthrough came in 2000 with Before Night Falls.
Perhaps his main claim to fame at present, is that he's the first Spanish actor to win an Oscar.
So, who do you prefer?... Antonio Banderas or Javier Bardem?...

Of course, you'll also find tons of popular and talented Spanish entertainers who appear regularly on Spanish television and in Spanish movies, but are not well-known internationally.
Sometimes, this is because they've not managed to achieve that international breakthrough.
Although, often it's because the actor is happy in Spain and not prepared to move to the United States - something which seems to be a pre-requisite for international fame.
Here is just a small handful of the talented Spanish actors on offer ...
Moving from left to right, they're Paco León, Luis Merlo, Hugo Silva, and Yon González ...
Which Spanish actresses are considered the most beautiful?...
Opinions obviously vary but, along with Penélope Cruz, Paz Vega receives top votes.
Born in Seville, in Spain's large southerly region of Andalucia, on 2 January 1976, this famous Spanish actress has been successful in both television and film, and as a model in New York.
But, she's not just an extremely glamorous Spanish actress ... she's also the proud mother of two children.
What do you think of her?...
Born on 18 July 1976 in Madrid, to a Spanish father and Romanian-Hungarian mother, she first studied journalism at University before going in for acting.
Starting in Spanish television, she soon went on to first Spanish films, and then English and French films.
Would she get your vote?...
She was born on 17 July 1975 in Palencia, Spain, and is mainly known for acting in Spanish films.
This was taken in her slightly younger days ...

But, being an actress is not just a matter of looking beautiful.
So, who are the best Spanish actresses when it actually comes to the acting part?...
Blanca Portillo, born in Madrid on 15 June 1963, is not only an excellent actress, but also extremely versatile, and certainly doesn't depend on her looks for some of her acting roles.
On the other hand, she "brushes up" really well, and can look both sexy and attractive.
Acclaimed for her TV and film work, she's also keen on the theater, having directed a number of plays.
Born on 16 March 1965 in Madrid, she started her career as a model, went on to be a TV presenter, and continued as an acclaimed TV and film actress.
Now divorced with two children, apart from being an excellent actress, she also looks extremely sexy ... particularly for her age ...
Lydia Bosch is another famous Spanish actress, who's not only popular for her looks and charm, but also for her acting ability.
Born on 26 November 1963 in El Prat de Llobregat, Barcelona, she's renowned for her roles in both Spanish TV and films ...
One of my favorite Spanish actresses, who's been going for years, is Concha Velasco.
Born in Valladolid on 29 November 1939, she's a brilliant all-rounder, having starred in tons of films, plays, not to mention television.
She looks wonderful for her age, still works hard, and is full of life and humor..
